Types of Transport

Means of transport is a term used to distinguish substantially different means of conveyance. The different modes of transport are air, water, and land transport, which includes rail, road and off-road transport.Each mode of transport has a fundamentally different technological solution, and some require a separate environment. Each mode has its own infrastructure, vehicles, and operations.

If we look detailed;

ADR (European Agreement on the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road) is a directive that ensures safe and orderly transport of dangerous substances without causing harm to human health and the environment. This directive also sets out the responsibilities, obligations and working conditions of the operators and drivers of all kinds of vehicles carrying transporters, buyers, fillers, freighters, unloaders, packers, transporters and other dangerous goods.The documents and certificates received within the scope of this regulation are called ADR.

ADR can be considered as a chain of standards for safe transportation.The requirement for these standards to comply with accredited organizations is still part of the ADR rule.The main objective of ADR is to ensure that dangerous goods are safely transported, and it is also aimed at classifying dangerous cargoes, setting conditions and aligning routes and parking spaces with certain criteria.

It refers to the Regulation on the International Transport of Dangerous Goods by Rail. Operating in the field of transport of dangerous goods covered by RID; filling, packing, loading, transporting, sending, receiving, unloading and tank-container / portatiftank operator, cistern wagon owner / operator, railway infrastructure operator, those operating for one or more of these fields of activity are obliged to obtain a certificate of activity of hazardous materials by contacting the Ministry. The issues related to the regulation of the activity document are determined by the Ministry.

Inland waterway transport plays an important role for the transport of goods in Europe.More than 37,000 kilometres of waterways connect hundreds of cities and industrial regions.The potential for increasing the modal share of inland waterway transport is significant. Compared to other modes of transport which are often confronted with congestion and capacity problems, inland waterway transport is characterised by its reliability, energy efficiency and major capacity for increased exploitation.The European Commission aims to promote and strengthen the competitive position of inland waterways in the transport system, and to facilitate its integration into the intermodal logistics chain.

Air transport is the most expensive of all transport modes, but is the fastest form of transport. It is mostly used for transporting small sized materials with small size materials. However, there are heavy transport aircraft up to 250 tons capacity. Due to the fact that there are airports in all parts of the world, it is possible to transport the cargoes quickly or directly.

Transportation of goods with the help of sea and cargo ships is referred to as maritime transport. In the logistics sector, fast, high-quality goods transportation, as well as low-price transportation has to bring along. For this reason, sea transportation is very popular by the seaside countries.

Sea transport is 3.5 times cheaper than railway and 7 times cheaper than road. The most expensive mode of transport is by air. Therefore, the rate of preferring the sea route is high. It allows the transport of a large number of goods at once and is safe. Sea transport is made in two types: tramp and liner. The only disadvantage of this transportation is that it is made slower than the airway or railroad.
